Under the covers, PAL has had Skype compatibility for the last 6 weeks or so. Because Skype is a radically different VoIP protocol than SIP (i.e. Vonage, Gizmo, BroadVoice, TalkParade, SIPphone, VoicePulse, etc.), PAL needs to handle a few things quite differently. Here are some of those differences: - PAL uses the native Skype Client for its phone GUI
- Skype TouchTones are handled "in-band" (challenging!)
- PAL uses Skype and Outlook address books simultaneously
- PAL adopts on-the-fly to Skype's rich audio streams
Any registered PAL user can switch back and forth between Skype and SIP service quite easily, via the PAL Tray Icon menu located at the lower right corner of the screen (near the Windows time display). Just right-click on the white PAL "balloon" and choose "Change VoIP Service." Alternatively, any TRIAL PAL user can select Skype immediately, at initial PAL launch. We are anxious to hear your feedback on PAL + Skype. Happy New Year!!! Chris |
