Your First Few Minutes with PAL

( a Quick Start Guide )

Welcome!!!  Your PC is ready to talk with you on the phone.

Before starting, a short Wizard will help you configure and train PAL.

For reference, this document also includes an overview of the PAL Interface.
 

The PAL Wizard

Launch PAL

Click Try to try a free 30 day trial of PAL Professional.

OR

Click Register if you have purchased PAL, and enter your serial number in the next screen.

Type your name and zip code in the spaces provided.  PAL will address you by this name and retrieve local information (e.g., weather) by the zip code you provide.

If you are a new user, click Create and Train a New Remote Profile and provide a name for this new profile.

OR

If you have used PAL before and already have a remote profile click Select or Train an Existing Remote Profile.

Dial your PAL Connect number from any telephone and click OK.  You will read aloud a few short paragraphs to train PAL to your voice.
 

Almost done!

  • Choose any additional settings you would like to configure.  You can adjust these settings at any time from within PAL.

  
 

Trying Out PAL

  • Call your PAL Connect number, located at the bottom of the PAL interface.

  • If PAL asks "Who is calling please?" say your Call-in security phrase.

  • Say a Common Command (e.g., "Read my email").  Note: PAL will only respond to preprogrammed commands.  The most commonly used commands are listed under PAL Commands

  
 

Overview of the PAL Interface

PAL Web

  • PAL can play audio (including podcasts, songs, and radio stations), read web pages, and get traffic reports, weather forecasts, and stock quotes.

  • Choose what you would like to hear from one of the drop down boxes and click the Play button (or say the command above the box).

  

PAL Outlook

  • PAL can read your email, appointments, and contact information from Outlook. You can also have PAL place phone calls to your contacts, send audio email and record notes.

  

PAL Data

  • PAL Sheets are basic Excel workbooks that you've modified in a simply way so you can hear the information.

  • Select one of the available PAL Sheets and then click on a command to hear the response.

  

Customizing PAL

  • Click the Options tab at the top of the screen.

  • Using the second row of tabs, you can customize PAL to fit your personal needs.

  

Watch Screen

What's PAL hearing?

  • Click Watch at the bottom of the interface to open the Watch Screen, which shows the words and phrases that PAL is considering as it attempts to understand what you are saying. When complete, it shows which phrase it determined that you most likely said.

  • The volume meter at the bottom reflects the magnitude of the audio signal reaching PAL.

  

PAL Phone

  • Along with receiving phone calls, PAL also can make outgoing calls. 

  • Click Phone at the bottom of the interface to reveal the telephone that resides inside PAL. To place a call, select a contact and a phone number, then click Dial. You hear and speak through the speakers and mic selected in Local Audio Output and Local Audio Input on the Options / General Settings tab.
