Q. Do I need any special hardware?
A. No, PAL®
software works with any
conventional PC, and any
telephone or cell phone. The
software only goes on your
PC. It does not need a
modem, a phone line, or any
special hardware whatsoever.
PAL simply uses your
existing broadband Internet
connection.
Q. Is any special software required?
A. No, PAL®
technology only requires
Microsoft Windows XP.
Outlook functions are based
on Office XP, Office 2003,
or Office 2007. (With
Windows XP Home Edition, PAL
requires Office 2003.)
Q. Will PAL work with a laptop PC?
A. Yes, you can use a laptop
PC; however, PAL needs an
Internet connection for
remote communication. That
means that the PC needs to
be turned on and connected
to the Internet in order to
call it.
Q. Will any VoIP service work with
PAL?
A. As far as we know, yes.
Most VoIP companies provide
softphone service as an
option: so you can use your
PC for regular phone calls.
Personal Audio Link®
technology works in
conjunction with all of the
major VoIP softphone
services including: Skype,
Vonage, Gizmo, BroadVoice,
TalkParade, SIPphone,
VoicePulse, etc. For
convenience, Adondo also
provides VoIP softphone
service ( PALConnect™ and
PALConnect™ Plus ) for a
modest monthly fee. See our
Store page.
Q. Do you offer PAL for Mac OS or
Linux?
A. At this time, PAL is
available only for computers
running Windows XP. As PAL
technology gains acceptance,
we certainly intend to offer
it for other operating
systems.
Q. What about privacy and security?
A. PAL software resides and
operates on your own PC,
nowhere else. PAL accesses
information which is kept on
your own PC, nowhere else.
PAL is private, just between
you and your PC. There is no
handheld device (with
potentially sensitive
information) to lose. There
is no data transmission that
could be intercepted. PAL
communication is entirely
audio; it really is just a
phone call. For
identification purposes, PAL
can be configured easily to
require: proper CallerID(s),
PIN number, and local/remote
pass phrases. You configure
PAL's security to be as
strong as you desire.
Q. Why is PAL sold as a service?
A. PAL is 100% PC-based
software; however, like many
advanced software packages,
we provide regular updates.
This is to keep PAL current
with changes in
Internet-based information
sources, like traffic
listings; and, to provide
you with new features as
soon as they are available.
At launch, PAL checks for
service updates. After that,
PAL runs completely
autonomously. It is a
conventional (albeit highly
sophisticated) "desktop"
application.
